School Events:

The year 2020, a year of the pandemic changed the lifestyle of the people across the globe. The pandemic has given rise to a New Normal.

Schools adapt to a new way of teaching-learning through Virtual Online Classes.

Online Training for Teachers:-  Teachers get Tech-Savvy

The SJC teachers attended a number of Online Training Webinars conducted by the Education Department as well as those conducted by various reputed institutes & the Archdiocese of Bombay to teach their students with the help of technology.

Parents Orientation:-

The School Counsellor Ms Violet D’souza conducts an Orientation Programme for parents. She had a session on maintaining emotional balance during the pandemic to overcome the crisis effectively. Parent’s response was overwhelming.

Students Orientation:-Students of every class from Std. V – X had an Orientation Programme conducted by our own Counsellor Ms Violet D’souza. She dealt with issues related to students. Stress management, personal health & hygiene, positive thinking etc. Students benefited from the session.

Teachers Orientation:-Teachers at SJC attended the Webinar conducted by Dr. Sr. Lalita. Teachers were encouraged to use their hidden talents in their favour. Teachers thoroughly enjoyed the session.

Online Classes:-Exploring the unexplored, using technology, the teachers & students began the new academic year. Online Classes began in June with homes turning into Virtual Classrooms. Regular schools missing both teachers & students.

Online Evaluation:-After a couple of months came evaluation time. A new way to evaluate students as to how much students have gained through Online Learning, keeping at bay the fear of actual examinations.

Hindi Diwas:-14 September, Hindi Divas celebrated differently with preparing a video for YOUTUBE. Song, Poem, Enactment to commemorate the day. Efforts of teachers & students were commended.

Teachers Day:-With the efforts of the Principal & the Students Council, Teachers Day was celebrated virtually comprising the entire school & office staff sans the students. Teachers experienced the same love, affection & respect from students though virtually.

Diwali Prayer Service:-A festival is no festival, till we don’t celebrate. Diwali was celebrated online with a prayer service & the Principal’s message. The true essence of Diwali was shared by the non-class teachers.

Independence Day Celebration:-SJC celebrated Independence Day through the Virtual way. Students put up patriotic speeches from homes. A patriotic dance performance where home was the stage, infused patriotic fervor in every Josephite`s heart. All put together made a wonderful.

Session for Teachers:-Ms Violet D’souza conducts another session for the teachers to end the first term on a positive note. Ms Violet`s session on Self-Care was what the teachers needed after a long term of Online Classes. It was a refreshing break for teachers with attention to their mental wellbeing.

Staff Meeting & PTA Meeting:- The staff meeting is no longer gathering together in a room, discussing issues & taking decisions. It`s a virtual staff meeting all coming together on one platform, discussing matters, drawing conclusions & making  decisions. The virtual meetings are now vital part of the New Normal.

SSC Results 2020:- SJC was blessed with 100%SSC results this year. Great news amidst the depressing Covid-19 Pandemic.104 scoring Distinction,53 with First Class,15 securing Second Class, while 1 with a Pass Class. Congratulations SJC.

Cleanliness Drive:- On the Occasion of Gandhi Jayanti the teachers gave a task each to class VII – X. The students made posters on cleanliness; some took up the task of cleaning their own homes. A different way to follow Gandhi’s principles during this pandemic.

Children’s Day:-  A day well celebrated & enjoyed by the children. An excellent video prepared by teachers, office staff as well as support staff. The children appreciated what the teachers did in order to make the children feel happy.

Christmas Celebrations:- Christmas is always a fanfare celebration at SJC. We missed the usual spirit of Christmas at school. The dampened spirits were lifted up by the teachers who conveyed the true meaning of Christmas virtually with children’s carol singing, prayer service & the message of hope by the principal.

Republic Day :-No Flag hoisting, no singing patriotic songs amidst the pandemic. This year we had a quiet virtual Republic Day celebration. The children delivered speeches virtually, the prayer service for the welfare of the country, Principal’s message all of it was Online.

Self-Awareness Session:-A much awaited session on self-awareness was conducted for the teachers, by Ms Violet D’souza. Topics such as Stress management, Time management & Letting go were taken up by her which made the teachers to introspect themselves & apply to their daily lives.

Novenas to St. Joseph:- The pandemic did not hold back the devout fervor of the teachers nor students of St. Joseph. For nine days novenas based on different themes highlighting the life of our patron St Joseph by the sisters, teachers, children non-teaching staff as well as our peons culminated with the feast of St. Joseph on 19^th March. St. Joseph Pray for us!
